Sex therapy is a specialized type of psychotherapy that addresses areas of sexuality such as sexual functioning, sexual satisfaction and pleasure. Much like traditional psychotherapy, treatment involves talking to your therapist about your sexual concerns and difficulties. Sometimes talking about sex and intimacy concerns can feel uncomfortable. We understand these reservations and are sensitive in our approach. We work collaboratively with you to bring about the changes your seeking in a way that honors your values. We strive to bridge a respectful and trusting environment as you begin to work through your sexual concerns.

We will begin by asking you about your concerns and about what you want help with. Sessions are often educational and may include information, exercises and techniques that are discussed in the session. A common practice is for the therapist to prescribe “therapy or homework assignments”. These include reading or communication assignments or behavioral exercise for you to work on at home, either individually or with your partner, depending upon your comfort.

Sex therapy can be beneficial for men, women and couples of any age or gender wanting help with their sexual concerns or problems. Sexual issues will often arise within the context of relationships. Other times anxiety, depression or trauma may be affecting sexuality or your sexual relationship. Our therapists are mental health and relationship experts who have a speciality in sex therapy, therefore we can assess and treat all aspects of the relationship as it relates to the sexual concerns.

Sex therapy is “talk therapy” and never involves physical contact.
